Learn to drive videos

The Department of State Growth’s YouTube channel hosts learn to drive videos in five languages:

These videos are a great tool to build on learning from the Plates Plus course or Tasmanian Road Rules Handbook and see these rules in practice on the road.

Please note that some of the changes introduced on 1 December 2020 are not yet reflected in these videos. The remaining information is still correct and these videos remain a helpful resource.

  • The “Speed limits” video has not been updated to reflect new the single learner period and maximum highway speed of 90km/h.
  • The “Rules for L1 drivers” video does not reflect the new single learner period and 90km/h as the maximum for all learners. The rules listed in this video are still correct, but the additional rules introduced on 1 December 2020 are not referenced. You will find these in the video on the December 2020 licensing changes page.
  • The “What to bring to your Driving Assessment” video shows the older L1/L2 logbook. There is now a new learner logbook. However, if you have completed the logbook shown in this video, it will still be accepted at your P1 assessment.
  • The “Supervising a learner to drive” video shows the Supervisory Driver Handbook that is no longer used. This information is now available in the learner logbook and online on the learning tips, learning stages and manoeuvres, and supervisory driver tips pages.
